A little history…..


Marc Sherman opened his first store in 1988, right here in The Depot Building. It was a small fine art and fine craft gallery. The first two years were hard work but he was successful and soon expanded into more space here in the building. By 1996, Marc had a collection of 4 different small stores and decided to incorporate them all into one entity; Stowe Mercantile.


Over the years the store has evolved into a real destination. Whether local folks are stopping by to pick out gifts or to treat themselves to the candy table; or tourists who visit for the first time (or maybe on their annual visit) everyone seems to enjoy the continually changing merchandise and old time general store feel here. Often you’ll find someone playing a song on the piano or there may even be a heated game of checkers going on. And there are always samples of the delicious Vermont Specialty Foods available for guests to try.


But the biggest reason people come by so often is because everyone is treated like a long time neighbor and friend. The staff at Stowe Mercantile really makes the difference, guests leave the store happier for the experience they have just had.
