Marc Sherman . . .

Currently of Hyde Park, Vt., Marc was born and raised north of Utica, NY. After High School, he was accepted into the Art institute of Pittsburgh, but decided instead to work in agriculture. Initially he worked near his childhood home and later moved to Colorado where he managed a large dairy farm. He returned to upstate New York and in 1986 he graduated from the Agriculture Program at SUNY Delhi. However, he now felt it was time to return to his art.

In 1988, Marc was successfully showing his photography though galleries and craft shows when he decided to open his first retail business here in The Depot Building. While continuing his photography, Marc expanded his stores, and in 1993, formed Vermont Furniture Works. The winter of 1999, Marc combined several different stores to create Stowe Mercantile, where you are standing right now. In the spring of 2000, Marc opened The Farmhouse at Straw Corner on the Mountain Road in Stowe as a decorative accessories and
gift store. He then went on to open “The Clock & Lamp”
and “Main Street Market”.
